Lab Grown Diamonds vs. Earth Mined Diamonds
When viewed by the naked eye, lab grown diamonds are indistinguishable from mined diamonds but can exhibit better features. Only a professional using high-tech equipment can differentiate between the two.
Nature formed diamonds under intense heat and pressure about 100 miles below the earth’s surface, with most having formed over a billion years ago. The fact is, all of the natural diamonds that will ever exist have already been created. This makes natural diamonds rare and expensive compared to manufactured diamonds. Rarity and price is the biggest difference.
Lab grown diamonds are eco-friendly, ethically sourced, and manufactured with care. Meanwhile, mined diamonds have many controversies regarding their production. Diamond mining requires a lot of resources and can wreak havoc on the environment. There are also cases where diamonds are mined illegally using child labor or bonded labor in Africa. Earth mined diamonds require a certificate stating they are not sourced unethically. There are no such controversies with lab grown diamonds. What’s more, lab grown diamonds are 20-40% cheaper than mined diamonds with the same 4C features of Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat.
